What is User-Generated Content?

Brands are strategizing and investing in influencers, finding value in their personal recommendation-style marketing through short-form, authentic video content. UGC (user-generated content) is any content created by fans, customers, or influencers for a brand. UGC is an alternative media strategy for production.

When it comes to influencers, user-generated content is beneficial for brands who need the help of an influencers' existing social network. It is a cost-efficient and authentic way to engage with consumers digitally. This type of content creation, where an influencer is fully involved in the production and development of content, can also be called IGC: influencer-generated content.

According to Digiday, the pandemic has pushed more people to stay indoors and behind the screens, meaning increased time on social media, therefore accelerating the need for influencers as brands look to diversify their media budgets and ad spend. With travel restrictions limiting filming and photography capabilities, influencers can produce content from wherever they are at a fraction of the cost of what a manufactured studio shoot would cost. Easy!
